Kate Walsh is Inspiring...

PS: I know, I know...the booked look is not acurate because she has cropped skinny jeans but I felt that to acomodate the winter approaching, jeans should not be cropped. And skinny looks bad on me so I chose these basics...

My Shopping Trip...the results

So it took about 3 and a half hours to get to Albany for my shopping excursion. I must admit I was worried at first when, 2 hours into the event, I had yet to make a single purchase. But then Forever 21 appeared on the horizon and the rest is history.
Basically, my purchases can be summed up in 2 words: Ba-sics. Sweater dresses, pumps, flats and Coach. I cannot afford the bag but managed to fall in love with their perfume. All in all, the damage was not so bad.

The breakdown:
  • Nine West flats
  • Nine West Croc Pumps
  • Forever 21 gray sweater dress (it's like my 3rd)
  • F21 black turtleneck dress
  • F21 heather gray prep school blazer a la Balenciaga
  • F21 Black card
  • AE flats
  • Coach Perfume

Eesh...I bore myself with these blah basics..nothing too enticing but in the end, ill be able to mix with everything I own. I paraded said ideas today and felt satisfied that all purchases fit with everything else in my closet.

Next on the shopping list... The Ziona! from Aldo:

My Upcoming Shoping Trip!!!

I have been in shopping detox for about 3 weeks now. Every day, it gets easier and harder all at once. I feel the need to reward myself for such determination and perseverance. I am giving myself, as a gift to me, a shopping trip to the States. With the US$ at a low and CDN $ acting like hot stuff, now could not be a better time to score some reasonably priced Nine West shoes, a hot J Crew wool coat and some inexpensive Forever21 accessories. I know this trip seems a tad counterproductive in my ultimate goal to fight overconsumption in a society filled with never ending wants and needs and a constant unsatisfaction what what one already owns, but whaddaya gunna do?

In light of my preparation for for my trip, here are a few goodies I intend on scoring:

The Skirt (as per this example from Top Shop)
I want it a few inches above my knee but it has to be flowy and extra points if its got some pockets!!
The Dress (es)
There will be a plethora of them...oh yes there will. Dresses (sweater, summer, long sleeve, short sleevs what have you) are perfect to layer over and under everything you own. I will winterize this for you in a later post by the way. Here is an example of one I am coveting but the list runs so long that I am slightly embarrassed...not really :P

The Ankle Boot

Ok ok...I have to admit that this one took about a year to grow on me and to be honest, until a month ago, I was still not feeling them. But now, they constantly race through my mind. The outfit opportunities are endless esp. with the dresses mentioned above *swoon* I can go either low (Payless at $20 or high $240 at Stone ridge in Montreal- I think I am in love...)

And there you have it! I know there are a few other pieces I should get...I was thinking maybe some kinda skinny but not really jeans, t-strap pump and a full top so I can use my wide black belt for that effortless "I am photographed by the Satorialist" look...what do you think? Suggestions?

How to Winterize Your Summer Wardrobe...Part 1- Shorts

So we all loved those dresses, shorts and tunics tops we wore throughout the warm summer months. Thanks to the fabulous layering trend and the ubiquitious opaque tights, we do not have to stow away our most prized summer possessions. Done right, many summer pieces can be worn straight through fall and even winter. However, I strongly advise you, dearest Canadian reader, that come February I do not suggest you rock a short jersey dress, thin tights and peep toes during a snowstorm. But besides extreme weather conditions...go nuts. Really and truly, all you need are tights, a few long sleeve tops and the right shoes. Then its crazy party time!

I present to you, exhibit A:

A Night Out with the Girls

Take your summer shorts, add tights, a clutch and some rockin shoes (the key here is the shoe) and off you go my dear!

Not feeling the heels? Are you more of a boot kind of girl. No problem. Check out #2:

A day browsing the streets of Montreal for more clothing you don't need ;)

And voila...winterizing your summer wardrobe is this easy...next I will tackle the summer dress.

For all you Canadians that dig Forever 21

Whilst browsing the internet yesterday, gloating secretly to myself about my current shoptox* achievement (I have gone almost 3 weeks without one single purchse whether it be piece of garment, scarf or accessory- congrats to me!!!) I came across this:

Oh la la: I know there are a few hard core canadian shoppers who lurve F21 and are now jumping up and down with glee as we no longer have to make our way across the border for our fix. We can get it online! And...and and...there is the 20% off. Can this day get ANY better???? I think not...the cherry on top is that there is free standard shipping (5-10 business days). I have already gone browsing and added a few much needed articles to my wish list. So in the end, there goes my shoptox...but it was nice while it lasted.

Check it out here!

shoptox*: a combination of shopping and detox. Employed by the writer of this blog when she feels she has spent too much money on clothes she does not need only to look over her wardrobe, exasperated as to why she has nothing to wear. The solution: stop buying things we do not need!
ps: Now I know my shoptox goes against the concept of Forever21 (inexpensive clothing that does not last long) but hey, I am a walking contradiction.

Book This Look- Natalie Portman

First of all, I must admit that I am not sold on the Hot Kiss dress I selected...its a bit too glittery for my taste...not matte enough you know?
And second of all, I had NO idea Natalie's name was spelled without an "h"...hum...

On a side note...

For those that lurve pretty bags and great prices, check out Accessory Bug. I have strong feelings for Bottega Veneta and their braided bags, but can barely afford the zipper on them...hum. Instead, I could opt for this number (at $80...not bad at all).
Oh and one more thing:
Please use promo code: spooky for 10% off any purchase!!

Book This Look- Audrina Patridge

Are we getting sick yet of the rocker t-shirt? I have never sported this look (as much as I love me a good t-shirt). Call me old fashioned but to me, you wear those shirts if you are a huge fan. I would just feel like I was betraying the group if I did not hum their songs daily as I wait for my bus every morning. I would always be afraid that a stranger would stop me with prodding questions about the group's background, traditions and religious views. In return, I would just stare with a blank expression as I can barely pronounce the name of said group. The stranger would then point, laugh and announce to the world that I was a big fat phony. I dont want to be called a phony. So I don't wear rocker t-shirts unless I attended 2 concerts, own a book about them, cut out at least 6 months worth of Big Bopper pics and can recite most of their songs (air guitar and all). In all honestly, the last time I was this hard core about a rock star, it was 1995 circa Aerosmith/ Bon Jovi. So there. No rocker tee's for me. But I am loving Audrina's boots!

The Little Black Dress Gets the Boot! haha

I think I amused myself more with the title of the post than the post itself. And by the way, can you believe this is the first time I am mentioning Angelina? I guess it is not really a surprise. As much as she has a hot like fire boyfriend, she is somewhat uninspiring in the style department (in my opinion)...and it is simply for one reason: not enough accessories. She has a striking beauty but as for the outfits, they generally get a unanimous combo of "meh/ *yawn*-is it time for bed yet" out of me...

Coveting Fall 07 Balenciaga

If there was any look that I have been coveting for Fall 2007, it is Balenciaga and his fitted piped blazers, ethnic scarves, and schoolboy charm. I (and many fashion magazines out there) would say that he single-handedly brought this look to the streets and the mass markets. This is the show that was a turning point for me in terms of fashion: I was suddenly able to embrace true Ready to Wear. I no longer just desired Michael Kors’s cashmere sweaters or Carolina Herrera’s white blouse…Nicolas Ghesquiere gave me the freedom to think outside the fashion box, if not for more than a few moments...Let us all agree that I cannot even afford the white eyeshadow sported on these models, but alas! My Canadian & American retailers can help me channel all this Balenciaga energy I have pent up. Enjoy!
