The Piped Blazer!

Image
I am loving the piped blazer. Ever since Balenciaga re-introduced us school boy prep meets ethnic luxe, I have been all over the look and those fabulous piped blazers. I am currently in a battle within myself. Ill be moving to Costa Rica for a few months to learn Spanish. This move takes place in early November. Therefore, there is no point in me buying said blazer seeing as a) ill be jobless for a few months so I cannot spend $ and b) last I checked, there is no need for a blazer in a lazy Costa Rican beach town lest I try to channel the most out of place fashion diva everrrr. People may stare… what with their flip flops, denim shorts and tanks… I don’t even think they accessorize much- they are too busy surfing, admiring the rainforest and eating fresh fish... In any case, I have resorted to getting my fix of the piped blazer online. Various shapes, colors, and prices- oh my! Coveting Fall 07 Balenciaga

Image
If there was any look that I have been coveting for Fall 2007, it is Balenciaga and his fitted piped blazers, ethnic scarves, and schoolboy charm. I (and many fashion magazines out there) would say that he single-handedly brought this look to the streets and the mass markets. This is the show that was a turning point for me in terms of fashion: I was suddenly able to embrace true Ready to Wear. I no longer just desired Michael Kors’s cashmere sweaters or Carolina Herrera’s white blouse…Nicolas Ghesquiere gave me the freedom to think outside the fashion box, if not for more than a few moments...Let us all agree that I cannot even afford the white eyeshadow sported on these models, but alas! My Canadian & American retailers can help me channel all this Balenciaga energy I have pent up. Enjoy! Should you wish to channel Balenciaga, get the look here with various pieces at 1/10th of the price: Clockwise From Top: Fitted Blazer, J. Crew $250.00 Slacks, FCUK, $138.00 Piped Blazer, Joe...

The Silver Lining

Image
If the runway shows of Spring 07 taught us anything, it was that the future is here, and it is here to stay. Nicolas Ghesquière had the Balenciaga models in pieces suitable for the Jetson family. Gucci and Stella McCartney also provided their touch of futurama to Spring with their space age goggles and silver dresses. This evidently has trickled down to the retail world and the results were unanimous: silver, silver and oh…did I mention silver? From ballerina flats at H&M , bangles at Le Chateau , big bags at Aldo and what’s this: le ggings at American Apparel (??)…silver was and still continues to be everywhere. We are completely inundated with this non color. For some of us (i.e. Trekkies , astronauts and strippers) it is business as usual. But for us regular gals, this trend can leave us scratching our heads and wrinkling our noses. If not done correctly, we could run the risk of looking like a roll of aluminum foil or a slightly overdone Christmas tree. So, like anything else...

Spring 2007 Trends

Image
Where can I begin with this? There is so much out there this season, I don’t even know where to start. It is one thing to read the Vogues and Glamours of the world or to view the futuristic collection of Balenciaga and Spanish ladies of Alexander McQeen , but it is another to try and find it at our nearest H&M, adapt it and make it our own. There are many trends that get displayed on the runways that should not be worn on the streets. However, when it is good, it is gooo'oood! Here are a few of my favorites for Spring 2007 1) Trench coat (could you be more Audrey?) 2) Shirtdresses (notice the plural) 3) Silver ballet flats 4) Striped ¾ sleeve cotton shirt 5) High waisted jeans/ trousers 6) City shorts 7) Heather Grey, Crayola Green, Cobalt Blue, Mellow Yellow and Oh So Very White 8) Puffy Sleeve crisp white shirt 9) Wedges 10) Graphic print knit top 11) Lightweight knit scarves 12) Big rings 13) Layering 14) Lucite Happy shopping!
