It is so flat!

Image
I know myself well enough that if I were put in a flight or fright situation, I would run like hell. My love and appreciation for flat shoes stems from this. I can walk into a shoe store and pick up every flat (the cheap vs. steep, the trendy vs. granny) and all nod in approval. But show me Burberry’s studded platforms and I shudder in fear. Show me any starlet that dons her Louboutin’s on the red carpet with pride, a tight painful smile and an overabundance of blisters on her toes hidden by concealer and I sigh in pity. I was browsing through the December issue of In Style and came across their section on Fashion Week testimonials. The celebs were discussing heels and in each mention, they just had to include how they were in pain but all was worth it in the name of fashion. Well they can suffer all they want but I refuse to succumb. I will resist until the very end. Even though, if there were anyone on this planet who needs to wear heels, it is I. With incredibly short legs, surpri...

Plaid and Simple

Image
What was once reserved for campers, schoolgirl skirts and the Scots can now be fount in most retailers across Canada and the US. Plaid is in. Runways shows such as Chanel, Anne Klein, Jean Paul Gaulthier and Vivienne Westwood were preparing us for plaid things to come in Fall 07. Jean Paul Gaulthier Viktor & Rolf Chanel Anne Klein Vivienne Westwood Celebs are also rocking the look: Plaid can now be found on blouses : obvious. Pants : kinda saw that coming. Shoes : hum...seriously? How you choose to wear it is pretty much up to you. Should you wish to go all Alexander McQueen on us; may I suggest you mix you plaid patterns: pink plaid top, green plaid pants, grey plaid shoes...catch my drift? Should you wish to be a wee bit more subtle but still keep up with the mix and match oh look at me and my effortless way I mix stripes and plaid and still look good…may I suggest a printed scarf and plaid shorts. Now…if you are like me and play it safe (i.e.: wild side for me is where I am wear...

DRESSED OR UNDRESSED? A FUN TIMES GUIDE TO SPRING07 DRESSES

Image
PART 2 JERSEY Here is a little bit of history for yalls: A little known designer by the name of Coco Chanel began making h er garments in jersey in the early 1920’s. A French fabric manufacturer, Rodier , introduced Chanel to this unpopular textile. A fabric that was once for underwear had now been transformed into daywear thanks to her revolutionary way of thinking. One of the first items made from jersey was a chic and simple tunic that fell just above the ankle. This was consistent with Chanel: a simple look that she advocated on herself. Jersey is still as popular now as it was then. The fabric is soft, the price is affordable (depending on the store) and it fits your curves nicely. Jersey is BIG this year in spring dresses. From Gu cci (right) to Bill Blass, Jersey was everywhere on the runways for Spring. If only Chanel were still alive today. Chances are, with her vibrant I-don’t-care-what-yalls-think-because-I-am-cool-and-still-80- years-later-you-all-copy-my-style-will you-...

WHAT IS LUCITE?

Image
Ok so Chanel has this bag. It retails for approxima tely $849.00 on Ebay. For this brand, you would think it to be a reasonable price for maybe a small chained purse right? Or maybe a version of what Penelope Cruz has been seen carrying out and about town. Not so much. It’s this plastic bag that looks like the one you were given by your mom when, at age 6, you decided you too wanted a purse, lipstick and shoulder pads…we all had one of those. But Chanel deems it appropriate to make one, and sell one for $849.00 . But then again…this is Chanel. If they could sell designer air, they would…or have they done that already? The bag is part of their Naked Collection and it goes with this Lucite trend that seems to be everywhere in maga zines now, but has yet to hit the retail market. So the big question is: what on earth is this Lucite anyways? Lucite in big grown up words is a transparent thermoplastic acrylic resin ( wordnet. princeton.edu/perl/webwn ). Basically its plastic. In a ti ...
