Eggstatic about Eggplant

Image
If you are a magazine fiend (as I am) you have undoubtedly noticed the overwhelming abundance of all that is grey for fall with the played out “grey is the new black” subtitle. I am so over it... I don’t know about you, but I am craving color…dark rich color for fall. The timing for eggplant's emergence could not have been more impeccable. Sweaters, blouses, t-shirts and even shoes are popping up in this non-eggressive shade. Here are a few ideas on how to wear this egguberant color: Pair a blouse with some dark denim jeans and silver belt for an eggseptional look Surpass everyone’s eggspectations by wearing an embellished eggplant top Eggsude confidence with plaid eggplant pants or pencil skirt. Plaid and Simple

Image
What was once reserved for campers, schoolgirl skirts and the Scots can now be fount in most retailers across Canada and the US. Plaid is in. Runways shows such as Chanel, Anne Klein, Jean Paul Gaulthier and Vivienne Westwood were preparing us for plaid things to come in Fall 07. Jean Paul Gaulthier Viktor & Rolf Chanel Anne Klein Vivienne Westwood Celebs are also rocking the look: Plaid can now be found on blouses : obvious. Pants : kinda saw that coming. Shoes : hum...seriously? How you choose to wear it is pretty much up to you. Should you wish to go all Alexander McQueen on us; may I suggest you mix you plaid patterns: pink plaid top, green plaid pants, grey plaid shoes...catch my drift? Should you wish to be a wee bit more subtle but still keep up with the mix and match oh look at me and my effortless way I mix stripes and plaid and still look good…may I suggest a printed scarf and plaid shorts. Now…if you are like me and play it safe (i.e.: wild side for me is where I am wear...

BOOK THIS LOOK- Cameron Diaz

You would think that in a world of bright accessories, a purple and a yellow combo may be overdoing it. But for Cameron right now...I don't know if it is because she dated Justin or something, but this seems to work. The bright yellow and purple seem to somehow coexist in harmony...pair that with Hepburn's stripes and dark denim and you are good to go. By the way, in light of me always wanting to keep it simple...this about as far as I will go in terms of mixing colors and patterns...so un-adventurous of me! Book This Look: . Stripe Top Club Monaco $39.00 . Jacket Suzy Shier $25.00 . Jeans RW& Co. $65.00 . Scarf Le Chateau $19.95 . Bangle H&M $7.90 . Necklace La Maison Simmons $20.00 . The Braided Bunch

Image
I am not a belt person. I don’t like to make an effort to put a belt on. And I hate trying to figure out the intricate balance between being too matchy matchy and looking like I belong in the fashion spread of Lucky Magazine. It is just too much work for me so I choose to avoid it and deal with saggy pants. All this ended when I found a perfect braided brown belt. I wore it with white pants and felt like I belonged in Banana Republic . I paired it with denim and everything in my life seemed to fall into place. The braided belt seems to be pretty hot right now, popping up everywhere from Gap to Smart Set to Le Cheateu. TIP: Wear it over a long shirt (nipped at the waist or 2002 style hanging low) or as an actual belt, loops and all. It’s a nice little update to the thick belts that we saw last fall (which by the way come back bigger and badder next fall). It also beats those skinny numbers I wore that would half disappear in my tummy fat when I sat down…arghghgh. Get Your Braided Belt ...

I don't think so. Notice how sharp Kelly looks (without the excess baggage of Destiny's Child or being overdone). The red shoes add a bit of color and the necklaces make the stripes and denim less boring. Uh Huh that's right. . BOOK THIS LOOK- Jennifer Lopez

I am aware that I did not give an option of a puff sleeve blouse as per Jennifer's outfit but I felt the short sleeve one was more fitting. I visited Club Monaco who is currently promoting all of their white blouses and I must say that I was impressed with this one. The white on white on gold looks very "socialite lunches with her aunts at the Ritz" don't you think? There is a richness to this look that you can obtain even without having to spend a Hilton's allowance. In any case, it's sharp, it's fresh and don't those butterflies look so darn cute!? Big Bangle Theory

Image
For those of you that read what I post (as opposed to just looking at the pretty pictures), you know that I am a huge accessories buff. I am a firm believer that a stylish woman can have a minimal closet of 1 pair of black pants, 1 white shirt, 1 pair of jeans, 1 black turtleneck, and an abundance of accessories (as per below). Now whether I abide by my own rules or not, that’s a whole other posting (or blog for that matter). I am digressing again aren't I? So bangles. Besides showing us how to “Walk Like an Egyptian”, they can also be referred to as bracelets. You know, the big chunky kind. Bangles are a key trend to keep in mind this season when you show your bare arms. They can update any outfit….and I mean any. You are coming from the gym and forgot you had a date with Mr. McHunk Hot…add a gold bangle to your sporty attire and I promise he won’t notice your frizzy “I just battled with the treadmill and came out a winner” hair or your damp “ who knew I had so many pores” armpi...

The Silver Lining

Image
If the runway shows of Spring 07 taught us anything, it was that the future is here, and it is here to stay. Nicolas Ghesquière had the Balenciaga models in pieces suitable for the Jetson family. Gucci and Stella McCartney also provided their touch of futurama to Spring with their space age goggles and silver dresses. This evidently has trickled down to the retail world and the results were unanimous: silver, silver and oh…did I mention silver? From ballerina flats at H&M , bangles at Le Chateau , big bags at Aldo and what’s this: le ggings at American Apparel (??)…silver was and still continues to be everywhere. We are completely inundated with this non color. For some of us (i.e. Trekkies , astronauts and strippers) it is business as usual. But for us regular gals, this trend can leave us scratching our heads and wrinkling our noses. If not done correctly, we could run the risk of looking like a roll of aluminum foil or a slightly overdone Christmas tree. So, like anything else...

I do believe that overalls are slowly making their appearance in the fashion world. Applauded for its comfort factor and it denim-ness (it matches with everything), it is no surprise that Cameron is rocking this look. Notice how she has paired it with a simple white t-shirt and metallic accessories to keep the look fresh.
