Coveting Fall 07 Balenciaga

Image
If there was any look that I have been coveting for Fall 2007, it is Balenciaga and his fitted piped blazers, ethnic scarves, and schoolboy charm. I (and many fashion magazines out there) would say that he single-handedly brought this look to the streets and the mass markets. This is the show that was a turning point for me in terms of fashion: I was suddenly able to embrace true Ready to Wear. I no longer just desired Michael Kors’s cashmere sweaters or Carolina Herrera’s white blouse…Nicolas Ghesquiere gave me the freedom to think outside the fashion box, if not for more than a few moments...Let us all agree that I cannot even afford the white eyeshadow sported on these models, but alas! My Canadian & American retailers can help me channel all this Balenciaga energy I have pent up. Enjoy! Should you wish to channel Balenciaga, get the look here with various pieces at 1/10th of the price: Clockwise From Top: Fitted Blazer, J. Crew $250.00 Slacks, FCUK, $138.00 Piped Blazer, Joe...

Cheap Vs. Steep

Image
Hats are all the rage this Fall. They look great with the bangs everyone seems to still be sporting and they are quite fetching with what seems to be a 40's revival in our wardrobe. Plus they keep your head warm in winter, which to be honest, is so crucial should you decide to live in such a cold country- I hate winter so much...so so very much...

The Printed Skirt

Image
In all this hoopla over leggings and city shorts, I feel we have neglected an icon of femininity: the printed skirt. Its versatility and comfort factor are rarely unmatched. Can you wear leggings to a high profile meeting? Not so much. How about a garden party in city shorts: yeah, but only if you want to be judged...no one wants to be judged ;) My point is the printed skirt has been around for centuries and it ain’t going no where. In a season of brights and black/white prints, it is only fitting that we would see an emergence in the printed skirt. Stores such as Gap, Joe Fresh and Jacob were parading their printed-ness all over malls across Canada. Many a printed skirt comes with a white ground and a bright or black print (as per below) which facilitates matching (oh, we like that!) TIP: #1-Wear them with plain t-shirts and thongs (remember those? They are the ones you carelessly threw in the back of your closet when you bought your ballerina flats or peep toes) for sangria with the ...

Free Counter The following text will not be seen after you upload your website, please keep it in order to retain your counter functionality online blackjack Stripes are still as popular now as ever...Will this trend die any time soon? I don't think so. Notice how sharp Kelly looks (without the excess baggage of Destiny's Child or being overdone). The red shoes add a bit of color and the necklaces make the stripes and denim less boring. Uh Huh that's right. . Book This Look At: Jeans RW Co. $65.00 Top (short sleeve) Joe Fresh Style $14.00 Necklaces Le Chateau $19.95 Pumps Aldo $59.95

Yellow Invades Fashion!

Image
We have been bombarded with yellow since the beginning of spring. Yellow dresses, yellow tops and even yellow shorts. .. But now…yellow conquers all from earrings to bags to shoes. Oh la la, the shoes! On a side note, is it me or is every celebrity out there wearing yellow shoes? Apparently you are not big time Hollywood unless you are rocking some yellow pumps. However, yellow is such a cheery, happy go lucky color that you may as well indulge in the trend. If you are feeling cheap and trendy, get some bangles for $5.00. If you are feeling trigger happy with your credit card then get yellow peep toes at Aldo for $49.95. If you have fallen on your head and are completely unaware that you suffering from a concussion, spend $1,275 on a yellow purse you may wear 5 times. Tips: Yellow looks great with a plain white t-shirt and jeans (as per below- just don't wear all accessories at once or risk looking like a carton of lemonade). By the way, if you are like me and are on the constant...

Tunic or not Tunic: That is the Question.

Image
There is a huge buzz amongst the powers that be in Fashionland in terms of the new shapes we have been seeing. It is now being referred to as “big over slim” which, in normal people talk, is a loose fitting top over slim pants or leggings. This is the look, this is what we must aspire to if we wanted to be coined the term trendy (doesn’t everyone want to be trendy? ;) We are not cool this spring if we are not wearing a potato sack and some peep toes. The potato sack I am referring to is the tunic . It can be referred to as a loose fitting top that is longer than your average t-shirt (hitting almost mid thigh). On the one hand , this means that everybody (whether you are a size 2 or a size 12) will look like a size 12. On the other hand , my mom keeps asking me if there is anything she needs to know about my current situation (i.e.: should she be planning a baby shower for her very unwed daughter). I am enjoying the tunics because it puts less emphasis on my thigh/hip area. And h...

White Here, White Now

Image
White has always been a tricky color. It always looks crisp and clean in the magazines and yet when we buy white, here is what tends to happen: Situation 1: We vow to take care of it, washing it only with other whites. Then reality sets in and due to lack of time or just plain laziness, they end up in the wash with your hot pink underwear or those never before washed dark denim jeans. This then turns your white into either a pale pink, or a light shade of smog. The “formally known as white” top gathers dust in the closet ( we feel too guilty throwing it out, I mean we JUST bought it and have yet to wear it)... Situation 2: We buy cheap white tops and bottoms, figuring "hey it’s cheap, for sure I’ll wear it" (why, oh why, do we lie to ourselves so?) . Then to our amazement, we try them on and realize “oh my” we can see right through the shirt to our belly buttons (not cool). The transparent top is pushed far back into our drawers. Ignorance is Bliss. Situation 3: We buy a whit...
